About EmarketingMan

Emarketingman.com is owned and operated by me, John Barbour, doing business as
Era Ventures, LLC. The latter is a
holding company for a suite of websites devoted to the general area of internet marketing, home
business, and online network marketing, both to develop residual income for myself, and to teach
others.

My background is diverse. I’m a retired Neuropsychologist, private investor, stock and commodity
trader, and part-time Harley mechanic, among other things. Beginning in 2000, internet marketing
and home business entrepeneurship have been my main interests. Frankly, I enjoy learning and teaching,
and solving puzzles, and the challenge of this whole internet business and marketing thing was just too
much to resist!

Many of the websites that I’ve started were done, quite frankly, as part of my learning process. I find that
I learn best by doing, so as I learned things, I just jumped in and applied them, and the result was a
website, or in a couple of cases, an ebook. I have two of those under my belt, plus numerous articles
that I’ve published on my own sites, or in my blogs, and in various marketing article directories and publications.

Some of the many sites that I own and operate are listed below …

  • Blogging Bonanza is my beginners
guide to blogging. It shows you how to use blogs and RSS in internet marketing.

  • CoRegistrationServices.com is
a directory of some of the top vendors for co-registration leads, and serves as a “feeder” for my own
    leads vending site.

  • Email Profit Formula is my ebook
about the “secret formula” used by top internet marketers in their email marketing campaigns.

  • John Suggests is a collection of my
top recommendations, and also serves as the central referral domain for my other sites.

  • List Profit is the home of my “List Profit Tips”
newsletter, and also my email marketing blog and forum.

  • Net Biz Tips started out as an experiment,
and ended up as one of my two primary recruiting and newsletter subscription/publication sites.

  • New Era Ventures was my original
corporate site, mainly to give my company an internet “home” and also as a place for landing pages
for many of my PPC campaigns.

  • New Era Web Hosting is my hosting
and domain name registration reseller site, originally started to cut my own costs on registrations.

  • Nitro List Builder is, as the name implies,
a resource for helping you build a large email list as inexpensively as possible.

  • Start Internet Business Today
is another resource site similar to emarketingman.com. Both are free content sites that generate
revenue through affiliate links and AdSense earnings.

Starting an Internet Business

How to Start an Internet Business

Starting an Internet Business

Obviously, you’re here because you want to learn how to start an internet business, and learn
how to make money online. If you are a self starter and you read the marketing information here
carefully and thoroughly, you will have most of the information you need to start a successful
online e-marketing business. Our menu is organized so that if you follow it step-by-step, you
should learn how to start an internet business. You’ll also find useful online marketing and
internet business links on nearly every page of our site.

You don’t need a lot of money to be successful in internet business, although it is not
realistic to expect to do it for free. Even small, home-based internet businesses that
can fill a niche can operate successfully and profitably. The number one mistake
someone thinking of starting an online business can make is to think too broadly, and/or
to try immediately to sell products to other people that teach them how to start an internet
business. Ironically, many people with no knowledge whatsoever seem to think that they
can teach others how to do what they, themselves, have not accomplished.

The Internet , e-marketing, and e-commerce can make a lot of money for you. You
need to have a niche to fill, then design, buy, or represent as an affiliate a product or
products to fill that niche.

As we go through this section, we’ll refer you to examples of successful web sites. Every
web site reviewed here is successful because they found a niche to fill and found or
created products or services to fill that niche!

That said, how does one go about starting a business online?

There are five general types of internet businesses that you can start.

  • A portal site or a portal that sells digital products.
  • A content web site that is monetized with advertising.
  • An e-commerce business that sells a digital product.
  • An e-commerce business that ships tangibles to people.
  • A business to business and/or service-selling web site.

In addition to the above, you can also start either an
affiliate marketing business, or can do
network marketing online.
In both cases, you can start and run these types of online businesses with or without a website.

For most people, the best place to start is to get some good training in online affiliate
marketing, since the skills also apply to Network Marketing online, and to selling your own
products or services. You can learn some good
affiliate marketing secrets
here.   Actually, there aren’t any big secrets, but this is
something you need to learn.

Seriously …
understanding affiliate marketing
can be the key to your entire online business success.
You’ll learn how to promote a product, and when you have your own product to sell, you’ll know
how to train your own affiliates.

One other type of internet business or web site is called BrochureWare. This is
a site that acts as an online catalog for your company or organization, but from which
people can’t purchase online. These sites do serve a purpose but have very little to do
with running an online business for profit, so we won’t be discussing them.

OK, let’s dive in and see some examples of successful online businesses.

Portal sites which sell digital products

This a very exciting model that requires mostly knowledge and time. A portal site is
a site that provides information to people for free, or for a fixed price, and sells digital
products to site visitors. You might be asking yourself, how do I create a portal, or do I
have what it takes to build a portal site? To build a successful portal you need the following:

  • A lot of information to share on a particular subject that people are interested in.
If you have this, then creating a portal site can just be just plain fun and sometimes\
    very profitable.
  • You need to learn how to build and edit your own web site.
  • A product of your own creation, or products you advertise as an affiliate, so that
you can “monetize” (i.e., earn income from) your web site.

One man, in particular, specializes in teaching people how to create and run
successful portal sites (he calls them “content sites”, but they are really the same
thing, as we use the term). If this type of site interests you, you owe it to yourself
to learn about internet
business at Sitesell.Com
.

This is some of the most solid information you can find on how to run an internet
business, and the cost is a fraction of what many other people charge for information
that is of lesser quality, and lesser volume. You simply cannot go wrong following
Ken Evoy.

The truth is you don’t need a lot of money to build and launch a web site! You can
start your first Internet business with an investment as small as a few hundred dollars.
Where else in the world can you open a business with world wide exposure for so little?
Only on the Internet! Let’s look at an example of a very successful portal site that sells
and promotes digital products, while providing a great deal of free information.

The Newbie Club
is an example of a great portal site dedicated to helping people who are new to running
a business on the Internet. Their web site is not only a portal but they also sell their own digital
products to club members and nonmembers. This type of web site, a portal that sells digital
products, is becoming more and more common. Most of the products available at the Newbie
Club are related to how to use computers and how to use the Internet effectively. Examine the
site layout and content. Their design is very deliberate and straight forward. This is a classic,
high quality portal site.

Portal sites monetized with advertising.

This type of site is becoming known as a
Virtual Real Estate” site. They come
in a variety of formats, but the basic premise is to provide a good deal of content, and links to
other sites, so as to attract both search engine spiders and human visitors. You can
monetize your website with
a variety of contextual text and graphic ads, utilizing Google AdSense, ads from the Yahoo
Publisher Network and affiliate links to products at places like Amazon.com and
Clickbank.
You can also monetize a website with CPA offers (“cost per action” offers).

“Virtual Real Estate” is increasingly popular as people realize the value in diversifying their
internet businesses and holdings. I now have more than 20 such sites myself, covering a variety of
topics that have nothing to do with internet marketing, and I monetize them with a combination of Adsense and CPA offers, as well as using them
for other types of lead generation. By the way, in case you don’t know it, lead generation through
CPA is one of the most lucrative and least known mechanisms for making money online. I made the
mistake of overlooking it for several years. You owe it to yourself to learn the various ways there
are to make money online without direct selling.

The concept is very simple. You build a site that gives free information on a niche topic that people
are interested in, draw traffic by publishing a related blog, and by publishing articles in the major article
directories, and your money is made from the contextual advertising on the site.

If you run CPA ads, you can earn anywhere from a few dollars on up simply for having your site
visitors fill out a form to request free information from your various advertisers. Some offers will
pay you if your site visitors submit nothing more than their email address or their zip code. This
type of marketing is known as lead generation, since you are, in effect, helping the CPA advertiser
to collect leads. The main drawback to this, of course, is that you are giving away your site visitor
to the advertiser, although you can overcome this to a great degree by offering some sort of free
report or newsletter on your site, so that visitors will become part of your mailing list, too.

Unlike traditional affiliate marketing, you don’t need to “pitch” the product to your site visitors,
nor do they need to buy anything, for you to make money. You earn simply by referring them to
another site where they fill out a form voluntarily, and become a “lead” for that advertiser. This is
one of the simplest ways of making money online.

If you’ve studied this model, I’m sure by now you realize that this site, Emarketingman.Com, is
also a content portal site. The information here is free, and many of the links you’ll find here for
suggested and recommended products are affiliate links, which means I earn a small
commission when you purchase the product through my link. I also run another “content”
portal that teaches you how to start an internet business

E-commerce site that sells digital products

This is becoming a very common approach to selling on the internet. Imagine having
a downloadable digital product, like an e-book or software program, that can be sold online.
All you have to do is find the market that needs this product, create the product, set up
your web site and start raking in the money. Yeah, right! This isn’t all that difficult, but
neither is it as simple as some people make it sound.

Let’s take a look at some high quality digital products and two web sites that are great
examples of how to sell digital products. Notice the big difference in web site style and
presentation, by comparison to a “content” site.

Blogging-Bonanza.Com is the sales mini-site for my newest digital product, which is
a guide to using blogs and RSS
for internet marketing
.

This type of web site consists primarily of what is known as a “sales letter”, and is often
referred to as a mini-site, since it contains only a few pages, primarily the sales copy, and
the ordering page. The sole purpose of this site is to move you to purchase the product.
You will notice that the design is very different from the design of the typical portal or “content”
site. The entire web site is automated, including the pages for purchasing and downloading
the ebook, and entering the private area of the site.

An e-commerce site that ships tangibles

This is probably the most common platform that people use to start an online business,
and depending on how it is done, can be very easy, or one of the most difficult ways to start
an internet business. Most people find the concept easier to relate to, because they are
accustomed to buying and selling tangible products in the offline world, and most people
have bought something over the internet. There are thousands of large businesses using
this standard e-commerce model.

An increasingly popular variation on this model is to sell drop-shipped products
either through a direct-sales web site, such as a Yahoo store, or by using online auction sites
such as E-Bay. For many people, this is a simple and lucrative e-commerce model, and
the number of people making at least a part-time income just with Ebay is approaching one
million!

A business to business web site

In a nutshell, a “B2B” web site offers a product or service that other online business
owners need and use. It could be an ezine directory, traffic generation, accounting
services, autoresponders, or countless other things. In a sense, this is a very shrewd
business move, since your target market is not the general public, but other business
owners. You know they have money to spend, and you know they need your product,
and you know where to find them. By doing internet business “B2B”, you’ve solved
many of the dilemmas faced by people trying to start an internet business.

Let’s take a quick look at several of these business to business web sites.

If you’re going to sell anything from your website, you need some way to take
payments. You can simply use Paypal, of course, and do all of
your own fulfillment manually, or you can “hire” software to do it for you.
I offer a complete internet business package in my comprehensive
online shopping cart which
also includes multiple autoresponders.

Another service that many internet business owners need, especially if they intend
to do any aggressive e-marketing using permission e-mail, is an autoresponder. You
can get autoresponders included in my own
online shopping cart
, or you can go with another of the major providers of
autoresponder service.

The Internet continues to spawn more and more services geared to helping other
Internet business owners succeed. If you want your web site to be seen by web surfers,
you need to understand what key words or phrases people are using on the search
engines to find your type of product or service. Wordtracker has created an affordable
service that allows you to research the optimum key words and key word phrases to use for your page
title and your key phrases. This is another great example of an internet business selling
services.

I don’t have a product but, I want to start an Internet business!

If you, like most people, have the desire, but no idea where to start, you have a
couple of choices. One is to take up either
Affiliate Marketing
or online
Network Marketing
, and represent someone else’s product for a commission. Most
people doing this don’t make a great deal of money, but those who are dedicated have a
shot at the elite, that 5% or so of who become “Super Affiliates” or “Network Superstars”
and do extremely well.

Affiliate Marketing can also provide a great second income stream, if you already
have a web site and can pick up some products to represent as an Affiliate. Your
goal, of course, is to find products that complement rather than compete with or
contradict the theme of your existing web site.

Regardless of whether you’re an internet business “newbie” or a web site owner
looking for additional income, you can find tons of products to represent at two of
the biggest affiliate marketing portals, Clickbank and also
Commission Junction

A more lucrative way to start internet business is to
develop and sell your own info-products. In the long run, this is a better approach
to starting an online business, because you own and control the product, and instead
of competing with hundreds or even thousands of other affiliates, you are only competing
against other similar products.

If you’re going to create your own products, though, you really need to do some
research, and find an internet business niche. It’s been said that “the riches
are in the niches”, and it’s absolutely true. However, don’t make the common mistake
of creating a product that YOU think is cool, and then trying to create a market for it.
Instead, find a niche that is already popular, and create a product that is already in demand.

For that matter, you don’t even need to have a product to sell to have a profitable niche
business. More and more people are catching on to the fact that having a quality “content
site” can be a significant source of revenue, from affiliate links that you can post on the
site, and from things like google adsense revenue. Click the banner below to learn how.

E-Marketing Essentials: Domain Names, Hosting, and Site Automation

E-Marketing Essentials:

Domain Names, Hosting, and Site Automation

What's essential for emarketing and where to start

If you’re intending to do business from your web site, it is essential that you have high
quality, reliable web site hosting, and your own Domain Name.

While some people starting out on a shoestring budget will find it necessary to use free web
space, this does nothing to enhance the professional image of your online business, and quite
probably will hurt it. If at all possible, get your own domain name, and pay for web site hosting.

Think about it. Would you prefer to buy something from someone who can’t afford his
own web site and uses a Hotmail account for his e-mail, or from someone who has a nice-looking
website hosted on its own domain, and whose e-mail address goes through the web site?
Which one looks more professional, and gives you as a potential customer more confidence and
peace of mind?

Domain Name Registration

While domain name registration used to be quite costly, it has gotten down to the very affordable
range. You’ll still find companies that want to charge you in excess of $30 per year for simple DNS
registration, but there are plenty of high-quality, reputable Domain Name Registrars out there who
will give you excellent service for around $10 per year per domain. It makes no sense at all to
pay any more than that, nor do you have to!

Learn more about choosing and registering your own domain name.

Web Site Hosting Providers

There are a wealth of excellent companies out there eager to host your web site. While you can
also get free hosting, it is a poor choice for an internet business, and you’re only saving about $10
a month or less. Using free hosting gives your business a “cheap” look, and can cost you in other
ways. I advise strongly against it. If you can’t afford even a few hundred dollars to start your internet
business, it is all but pointless to do so, in my opinion. This need not cost you a fortune, but it isn’t
absolutely free, either.

To give you all the details, and some links to the highest quality hosting providers I’ve found,
I’ve prepared a separate page with all the information you’ll need. These are all very highly rated
web site hosting providers.

Getting Ready for E-commerce

I am a Commission-Based Affiliate for the products linked below

You’re almost ready to go, except that if you’re going to sell a product or products from your
web site, you’ll need either a shopping cart, or some other way to have your orders processed.
For those who sell digital products (for instance e-books) there are two choices that we
recommend.

The first choice is to work with
Clickbank
. For a small setup fee, and a percentage of your sales, they will take and process
your orders, and send you a check each month. This also gives you a ready-made affiliate sales
force, since Clickbank is primarily an affiliate-sales portal. Clickbank member affiliates advertise
and promote your product at a commission rate that you choose, most commonly around 50%.
You are, of course, free to choose any commission percentage that you prefer.

By the way, if you sell products through Clickbank, either as a vendor or as an affiliate, you may
want to check out the collection of ClickBank Tools that I’ve assembled. Both vendors and affiliates should be
aware of and protected against download theft and “link hijacking”. These tools do the job, and will
pay for themselves in a short period of time.

Your second choice is to have
integrated order processing
on your website, and run your own affiliate program, if
you choose to. This will cost you a bit more per month than Clickbank, but you can choose
not to pay affiliate commissions, or to be selective in who your affiliates are and how much
commission you pay. Some people pay one set of commissions to most affiliates, but offer
higher commissions to high-volume sellers (i.e., “super affiliates”).

Ordinarily you’d need a merchant account to do this, but my own shopping cart service and
website automation solution takes care of that
for you, and even gives you autoresponders and database management as part of the deal. You
can sell ebooks and other downloadable products, as well as being able to sell physical products
that you ship yourself or that you have drop-shipped from a supplier. You can accept payment via
PayPal
and/or any of 50 online credit card processing gateways.

Commission-Based Affiliate

Finally, you may want to simplify things by signing up with a web site host that provides
integrated order processing as part of their service.   I’ve recently begun using such a
hosting service, and can’t say enough about it. Your hosting account includes expiring download
pages for digital products that you sell, password protection of directories, and a shopping cart
that interfaces with several major credit-card processing and merchant account service providers,
including PayPal
You can sell either digital or physical products, can set up and manage your own affiliate program,
or run a paid membership site. This is truly an all inclusive e-commerce web site hosting solution.

Email and Autoresponders

I am a Commission-Based Affiliate for the products linked below

One other thing you’ll need to plan ahead for is some sort of automation of your handling
of email, especially if you expect to receive any volume of inquiries, or will be publishing
an email newsletter, or doing any permission-based opt-in e-mail marketing.

Basic email functions can be handled by any of
several excellent email programs
. These are well worth the small investment, and
you can actually use them for free, if you’re willing to put up with looking at ads every
time you open your email sofware.

You probably will also want to consider setting up an autoresponder

.
An autoresponder is a great tool if you send out mass mailings, want to build a mailing list
through an automated subscription form on your site, or you intend to publish a newsletter,
which you’ll discover elsewhere on our site is highly recommended.

O.K., you have registered your URL, you have designed your site, found your web hosting,
and obtained a shopping cart or other merchant services you need, as well as squaring away
your email client and autoresponder. We are just about ready to launch this internet business
startup and begin making some money.

It’s time to learn a few marketing techniques to help promote your site. The next things
to learn about are email newsletters and permission
e-mail marketing. Then we’ll explore how to track your success, and finally give you some
marketing tips, as well as teaching you a bit about how to get indexed by the search engines
and directories.

Blogging Advice – Beginners Guide to Blogging and RSS

Blogging Advice – Beginners Guide to Blogging and RSS

A Beginners Guide to Blogging and RSS

What’s the best blogging advice I could give you? Learn how to use blogs and RSS for marketing!
These are the hottest new tools you can use for promoting any product or service online, and starting and monetizing
a blog is absolutely the easiest and least expensive way to start an internet business.

This page is meant to be a beginner’s guide to blogging. I’ll introduce you to the concept, and give you
the basics. If you’d like to know more, check out my new blogging guide blog for
blogging advice for internet
marketers
.

In case you haven’t heard, the net is buzzing with talk of blogging and RSS. Once the province strictly
of people who got a kick out of publishing online diaries, and later of political and social commentarists,
blogs and RSS are being adopted by the internet marketing community. This is the hot new trend for
internet marketers. The word “blog” was actually the most searched word of the year for 2004, and 2005
was “the year of the blog”. promises to be bigger
than ever for users of blogs and RSS.

Commission-Based Affiliate

So what is all the fuss about? Well, especially with the increasing restrictions on email marketing, including
ISP blocking of mail amounting to estimates of 40% of all email never getting delivered, marketers began to
look for new avenues to get their message out. Enter blogs and RSS.

Delivered straight to a user’s desktop, the content of an RSS feed is unfiltered by anyone.
Users can subscribe and unsubscribe anonymously, with the click of a mouse, and have no fear that their personal
information will be shared. RSS is “pull” technology, meaning that the user asks for it, in contrast to email,
which is often unasked for, and thus is often “push” technology.

Blogs, which are usually publicized by way of an RSS feed, among several other avenues, are the current darlings for
the search engine spiders. Search engines love blogs, because they are full of content, are frequently changing,
are devoid of “flash”, graphics, and other distractions, and are full of outgoing links. The web is all about
links, which is why search engines devour blogs.

If you know anything about search engine optimization, you know that those are the characteristics that
you should strive for when optimizing a standard web site page for the search engines. The pages in
a blog are that way by their very nature, and thus attract the search engine spiders.

Commission-Based Affiliate

Why do marketers love blogs?

Blogs are simple to create and maintain. Numerous hosting sites exist where you can create and publish
a blog for free, or for a very nominal monthly fee. You can also pick up one of several free stand alone
blogging packages, and host a blog on your own website, or on a new domain registered and hosted just
for the purpose of publishing your blog.

Blogging affords the opportunity to publish links to other sites, and to the interior pages of other sites.
Their popularity with human visitors makes blogs natural targets for traffic. Their constantly changing content
attracts the search engine spiders, which then follow the links that they find, and index the pages of other web
sites.

Many savvy internet marketing experts have suggested that the best way to capture an audience of potential
customers is to provide them with lots of free information, either through a “content site” that does little or no
direct selling, or through the publication of an informative email newsletter that gives free information and
at most employs a “soft sell” when endorsing products.

A blog is the perfect blend of the two. It has often been suggested that the best way to start an online business is
with a free newsletter, which allows you to develop your “list”. While blogging doesn’t develop your “list” in quite
the same way, it does afford you the opportunity to develop a loyal following among your readers, which accomplishes
much the same purpose as having a “list”. Either way, you end up being perceived as trustworthy, and as having some
particular expertise, and any product you endorse is likely to be well-received by your readers.

Whether you announce or endorse a product through an email list or a blog, you are announcing it to people who
want to hear what you have to say. Your blog readers are probably more eager, in many cases, than are readers
of your mass emails.

Finally, you can easily “monetize” a blog by running one of several types of ads in the body of the blog, or
in the blog template. You can also weave affiliate links into some of your posts, and generate some affiliate
income when your links are clicked through. This has got to be the simplest, easiest, and
least expensive way there is to start an internet business.

Internet Marketing with E-Mail Newsletters

Internet Marketing with E-Mail Newsletters

E-Marketing with E-mail Newsletters

Creating an opt-in e-mail newsletter could be one of the smartest marketing decisions
you will ever make, and doing it is much easier than you might think. If you simply can
not write, you can always pay to have the content written for you, or can simply (with
permission and appropriate credit, of course!) reprint good e-marketing articles that
you find in other newsletters, or on other sites. There are a number of article directories
that exist for the sole purpose of providing reprintable articles.

First of all, you are probably thinking that you really don’t need to start a newsletter.
After all, the Internet is swamped with people offering email newsletters. There are thousands,
perhaps millions of email newsletters out there … what could you possibly have to
offer?

Well, first of all, not all of those newsletters reach your audience, but more important
to you is the fact that your subscriber list can become your customer list whenever you
want to market a new product.

Why do a newsletter? It is the easiest and least expensive way to get free advertising
and promotional information to a targeted base of consumers.

Many newsletter publishers will tell you what a kick it is to watch the incoming e-mail the
first day or so after their newsletter goes out. Suddenly, their inbox is filled with product
inquiries and reports of sales of whatever product was endorsed in the latest issue. No
other advertising method allows you to reach such a wide base of people throughout the
world so affordably and so quickly.

This could be the best piece of marketing advice you’ll ever get …

If you don’t have a web site yet, prepare to start a newsletter or
ezine first; if you have a web site already and you don’t have a newsletter or ezine,
start one today! In the long run, your mailing list will prove to be the single biggest
asset that your business has.

How are you going to get someone to subscribe to your newsletter and what do you
write about? Here are a few pointers about successful newsletters.

1. Newsletters should be content driven. A good newsletter should excite,
educate and entertain. Some might disagree, thinking that a newsletter should only promote.
I think promotion is an essential part of a newsletter but should not be the sole component.
You can write about things relevant to your business or you can feature articles from other
professionals in your field. You can also do a combination of both. Your subscribers will
welcome the information, and if you promote only selectively, they will be much more ready
to buy when you recommend something.

2. A newsletter should be Opt-In or (permission based). Don’t get over excited about
launching your web site by sending out a bunch of e-mails promoting your site and newsletter
to news groups or user lists. This is not only bad Internet manners but it is bad business,
and could result in a spam complaint before you even get going.

3. Locate the subscription form to your newsletter in a prominent part of your home
page, where it is virtually impossible to miss. Most people recommend the upper left hand
corner of the page. Second most popular is the upper right hand corner. Popup subscriber
boxes also work very well.

4. In your subscription confirmation e-mail, tell the new subscriber how they can unsubscribe
and how frequently you will be e-mailing them. Don’t get offended if someone unsubscribes. It isn’t
personal, drop them from your list and move on.

5. Automate your subscribe and unsubscribe process. There are sites that
that will host your newsletter for a reasonable fee, or you can set up and use an autoresponder.
These companies have systems that allow you to quickly and easily set up your own automated
newsletter subscriber system. Automating your subscriber process will make your site more
professional and will also save you time from having to manually add and remove subscribers.

6. Make money by selling advertising or promoting products that you have affiliate links
to in your newsletter. Now you are not only sending out free advertising at no cost to yourself,
you are making money selling space in your newsletter or promoting products in your newsletter.

Finding Newsletter Subscribers

OK … this all sounds good in theory, but what if you have a low traffic site? You can put up
your subscription form, and offer an attractive newsletter, but if you don’t have traffic to your site,
where are these subscribers going to come from?

Fortunately, you can buy subscribers at fairly nominal fees. For one thing, most autoresponder
companies provide their own “in-house” subscription service. The main drawback is that they may
charge a hefty fee for the service. If you prefer, you can enlist the aid of any number of high quality
co-registration services that will find and sign up the subscribers for you.

Managing Your Subscriber Base and E-mail List

Ezine Director
is one of the best ways to set up an affordable newsletter or E-zine. They
charge a nominal monthly fee for their service, which takes about 30 minutes to an hour to
get set up initially. Once you are set up, it is really easy to manage your email list.

A second alternative that is OK for smaller startup newsletters is to use the autoresponder
that comes with your web hosting account, or to subscribe to a free autoresponder service
such as SendFree or FreeAutoBot. As your list grows, however, you will probably want to
move to something like Ezine Director, or a sophisticated e-mail manager …

Mail Loop is the Cadillac of such
products, and includes subscriber database management, bulk e-mailing functions, newsletter
templates, and a host of other features. When you’re ready to move into the big leagues, seriously
consider using this program.

If you’re going to be selling anything online, you’ll eventually need a shopping cart, which I can
provide you, along with high quality autoresponders.
You can start with the “autoresponder only” package, and then upgrade to a more feature-rich shopping
cart when you need it. This complete website automation package allows you to control your early
expenses, but it also grows with you as your business grows.

Starting Your Own E-zine

I am a Commission-Based Affiliate for the products linked below

An E-zine is not much different than a newsletter. Essentially an E-zine is a newsletter
formatted in HTML, with multiple pages. Most E-zines contain articles compiled by the editor
and can include contributions from the editor. Since E-zines are a multi-page format, they take
more time to compile than a newsletter. The primary advantage of an E-Zine format over a
newsletter format is compartmentalization of the information and professional appearance.

An e-mail newsletter is usually one long e-mail. An E-Zine has a number of pages and each
topic is usually given its own specific page, just like in a magazine. To learn how to start and
design your own E-zine you can download a free file from Web-Source.net. To download the file, just

Subscribing to the newsletter of someone in your field is a good way to get familiar with how
things work, and what sort of material to include. The following is a list of some of my favorite
internet business newsletters and how to subscribe to them.

  • Nitro Knowledge is a great newsletter that comes out
weekly, and features articles by a variety of internet marketing experts, gurus, and legends.
This is serious content, and usually quite educational.
  • Corey Rudl’s Monthly Newsletter is from one of the legends
of internet marketing. Every month you get insider tips, tricks, and secrets from somebody
who has “been there and done that”. Subscribe now!
  • Powerful Traffic Techniques includes a 7 part email
mini-course on attracting website traffic, and an ongoing newsletter covering traffic techniques,
most of which can be implemented for little or no cost. I love this one. Great ideas in
    every issue.
  • The Search Engine Report
by Danny Sullivan is a monthly newsletter that covers new developments with search engines and
changes to the Search Engines. Even if it is not in your area of interest, it’s a great newsletter
that will give you some ideas on how to present your own.
  • Now that you have tapped into some of the best sources on how to promote your site,
let’s take a look at how you can track your results, and add some
    automation
to your site and your business.

    How to Create a Website

How to Create Web Sites : Software Solutions to Create Web Sites

    How to Create a Website

It isn’t all that difficult to learn how to create websites , once you have a grasp of the
basics of how to create website code, or HTML. These days, you don’t even need to
know HTML to make your own website, complete with website optimization. Learning
how to create a web site that displays content and graphics involves using a very simple
programming language. HTML (hyper text markup language) is the acronym
for this code, which is actually fairly simple in its structure.

Writing “clean” HTML is a bit of a challenge for most people, however, and it is
important that you create web site pages designed in such a way that they comply with
the standards for correct use of the various HTML commands. For that reason, even
most professionals use some sort of editing program that will check their work, and/or
create web site code for them. Keep in mind also that a part of being able to create
websites from scratch involves having some artistic ability, at least to the extent of
    knowing what looks appealing.

Even if you’re going to use an automatic page editor, or employ the services of a
professional web site designer, you should familiarize yourself with the basics of HTML,
and how to create a web site, if for no other reason than the fact you may want to add
or delete something from your pages, and it’s a lot cheaper to do it yourself than to
have to pay a fee every time you want some minor modification made to a page.

The two best sources that I know of for some basic *free* instruction in HTML are the
    HTML Goodies site, and
    Web Monkey. Either will give
you a basic introduction to HTML, as well as some advanced tips.

Once you get to the design stage, and are actually ready to build something, you
have three choices of how to create websites:

    • Design and make your own web site, preferably using a template.
    • Pay a professional web site designer to do it.
    • Use an online service that gives you control as you create websites

    Options for Creating Websites

Option #1 is to do everything yourself. If you’re going to design your own
web site and build it, you’re going to need to learn HTML (see the reference sites
above), buy a quality page editor, and perhaps buy a web site template to cut down
on your site design time. The most popular page editor today, though rather expensive,
is Dreamweaver. Microsoft’s Front Page is also quite popular, although
only the latest versions are considered truly “user friendly” for relative beginners. For
the economy minded, who need only a fairly simple site, you might consider a “mini site
editor” which creates pre-formatted pages, the look and feel of which you have only
limited control over. Finally, keep in mind that both Netscape and Internet Explorer have
built-in basic page editing capability, and you can actually write HTML code with any
    text editor.

Option #2 is to hire a professional. A number of Ecommerce Website Design irms exist to help you in setting up a fully
functional online business website. Keep in mind, if you choose this route, that it
can get pretty expensive, and you’ll probably be tied to your designer for a long time,
as they may not be willing to design a site for you without also getting you signed on
the dotted line for a site maintenance contract, too. You may also have to contend with
the fact that nobody knows your product, service, and target market like you do, they
may have their own ideas of how your site should look and function, which can conflict
with what you want, and there can be long delays while you wait for them to get
around to your project. Choose your website design firm carefully, since in a very
real sense, they will be a “partner” in your business

Option #3 is the obvious choice for most people. There are now several
very high quality services online that will help you create web site pages with little or no
knowledge of HTML required. Basically, you subscribe to the service, and they provide
you hosting, page templates, and an online WYSIWYG (“what you see is what you get”)
page editor. You pick a look and feel for your site from their menu, type in your content,
and your website is up and running in no time. This is automated web site design at its
finest, and truly allows you to create web sites on your own.

    Make Your Own Web Site

Design Dashboard, for which I’m an affiliate,
is from marketing legend Marlon Sanders. The dashboard is a simple, inexpensive solution to get
you up and running *fast*! You literally do just point and click your way through the simple steps to
create web site headers and graphics, forms, and other important site features. You also point and
click your way through designing your sales letter and page template. The whole point and click
web site creation system costs less than an inexpensive html editor.

how to create a web site

iProBuilder from Madison Dynamics, for which I’m also an affiliate, is a brand new, all
inclusive web site building package that includes hosting, domain name registration, advanced
email functions, and tons more. Make your own web site with no prior knowledge of HTML,
using the killer templates they provide you! Upgrade to the “deluxe” version, and you’ll have a
fully functional e-commerce solution, including a script to start your own affiliate program..

create a website with Site Build It

Site Build It is the complete site-building solution from the
Sitesell group. The manuals for this program are extensive, and literally lead you step-by-step
through the entire process to make your own web site, and then show you exactly how to use
PPC search engines to draw hordes of traffic. Extensive search engine optimization is built in
before you upload your pages, and the package includes traffic analytics, newsletter creation,
advanced email functions and much more. It was never easier to create websites. This is how I got started, and I’m an
    affiliate.

    easy way to create
        websites
X Site Pro is the “new kid on the block” that has people writing rave reviews. This
    program
gives you a “what you see is what you get” editor, tons of website templates, and a menu system,
site map, and legal disclaimers that all update automatically when you create website pages. If
you don’t like the appearance of what you’ve made, you can change the “look and feel” of your
entire website with just a few mouse clicks. Many website designers have abandoned their
expensive software for this simple to use solution. Check it out today. I made a few sites with this, loved its simplicity
    and became an affiliate.

    Website Registrations and Hosting

OK … before you can go “live” you need to know how to register a domain name, and find
a domain name and hosting package. Fortunately, that’s the simple part. In fact, I am a domain
name registration and website hosting provider myself.
You can get cheap domain registrations
    and inexpensive website hosting here.

You may also need an online shopping cart solution that will
provide you autoresponders, database management, and the ability to deliver physical or digital
products, all from one central location. I have that too, at my own
    premium online shopping cart system.

    Web Site Design Tips

Regardless of whether you hire a professional, do it yourself, or use the recommended
online services above to create a web site, there are a few things to keep in mind when
designing a web site, especially if your intent is to do internet marketing using the site.

First, keep in mind that graphics files of any sort increase the time it takes your pages
to load, and decrease the likelihood that people will ever even see your pages. Most people
who “surf” sites make a decision within the first twenty seconds or so whether or not to hang
around. If they can’t even see your site because they’re still waiting for the graphics to
load, you’ve lost them before you ever had a chance to “grab” them.

Second, keep in mind that you want easy-to-use navigation on your site. You want your
visitor to feel like a welcome guest, rather than having them feel like your site is obtuse and
    difficult to understand and use.

Third, and perhaps most important, remember that words sell products on the
internet. Learn how to write clearly and persuasively! For less than the price of dinner in
a nice restaurant, you can learn from a master, such as Ken Evoy or Marlon Sanders. Check
    out either Make
    Your Site Sell!
    or another classic,
    The Amazing Formula

Good copy will often overcome the negative effects of poor site design, but poorly written
copy will rarely, if ever be salvaged by whiz-bang graphics and pretty pictures. Think about it.
Would you buy something from a person who can’t describe the product clearly, and wasn’t
careful enough to check the grammar and spelling on their sales page? Or would you buy from
someone whose words practically hypnotize you into drooling over their product?

Finally, keep in mind that you have only about 20 seconds to capture your visitors
attention. They make a “stay or go” decision that quickly, so you want to have an attention-grabbing
headline, and spend a lot of time on what appears “above the fold” on your web site. That
term refers to the headline, graphics, and copy that appears on the first screen that your
site visitor sees, before scrolling down. That is the most important “real estate”
on your site, in terms of whether your visitor will stay and look around, or leave in a hurry.

The bottom line? A simple web site design, with a minimum of graphics, easily used
navigation, and clearly written content is what you are striving for. Learning how to create
a web site is actually the easiest part.

    Internet Marketing Strategies

strategy is what everyone is trying to learn! If you know how to get traffic to your site and you are making a profit on the Internet, then you are already a success! On the other hand, if you’re visiting us, you most likely need some additional information, help, and advice with your internet
marketing strategy and e-marketing product strategy.

plan for a traditional offline business. Yes, you want to get indexed by the search engines,
but if that is your only plan for promoting your web site, you are destined to fail! You
need a comprehensive e-marketing strategy, if you’re going to succeed in online business.

By the way, many people do best when they
    learn affiliate marketing first,
and get their feet wet by promoting other people’s products.

Eventually, you may want to have your own product, but learning as an affiliate is a great
way to get started, and get your feet wet, regardless of which of the promotional strategies
outlined below you choose to use. Many people even find that they prefer doing internet
business strictly as an affiliate, since they can avoid all the customer service issues, such
as product delivery and payment processing, and still make a good income from affiliate
    marketing.

#1 – Get Started Blogging and Using RSS Feeds

This is a relatively new internet marketing strategy that is catching on quickly with the big
name marketing experts, but still hasn’t trickled down to the mainstream. If you implement it
now you have a chance to be an “early adopter”. Blogs have been around since the
late 1990s, but up to now have mainly been used for political purposes, or as a means for
individuals to make themselves visible. In the past year or so, though, internet marketing experts
have begun to adopt these strategies in a big way.

In a nutshell, a blog is an online diary, a page or pages that are frequently updated. Search
engines love them, because they are full of new content every time the spiders come around. The
authors love them because the search engines visit often, and rank them well, if the blog is well
designed to focus on certain key words and phrases (just like any web page!). Blogs can be used
to post product reviews, product announcements, articles, and links to your main site. They can
also be used as the mechanism for publishing an online newsletter, without the hassles associated
with e-mailing and building an opt-in list.

I love blogs so much that I’ve written my own ebook on the subject, but also have lots of free
blogging advice and blogging information available here at emarketingman.com. You must learn about marketing with blogs and RSS. These are the hot new methods for 2005 and beyond.

#2 – Direct Email Marketing and Email Newsletters

This internet marketing strategy is the most effective for reaching a targeted customer base.
The two methods used most frequently to implement this are opt-in email marketing, and by writing
    and publishing an online newsletter.

Email marketing has become increasingly difficult in recent years, and has quite a few limitations.
This is part of the reason that blogs and RSS are gaining so much popularity. In spite of its problems
however, email marketing is still a viable, if somewhat restricted strategy. Learn more about
    direct email marketing strategies here.

Many experts agree that one of the very best ways to start or promote an internet business is with an
email newsletter. Publishing a newsletter allows you to develop a more “personal” relationship with
your potential client or customer base, and can be a great help in “branding” any e-business that you
already have, or hope to promote. Learn more about internet marketing with email newsletters.

#3 – Search Engine Optimization and Placement

The reason we consider this an internet marketing strategy is quite simple. Search
engine traffic is free, and as your placement in the listings rises, you get more and more
link requests from other webmasters, giving you yet another source of free traffic. In the
long run, traffic is the primary concern of most internet marketing webmasters.

Everyone wants the best placement in the search engines and directories. If you are new
to the Internet, don’t be tricked by the people who claim they will sell you top placement in the search
engines. In many cases, they will take your money and often deliver little or nothing in return. You can learn how to handle your own search engine placement right here and become self reliant. Learning
how to optimize your pages for the search engines is not that difficult if you get a quality set of tools and a upto date SEO guide. search engine optimization tools.

#4 – E-Marketing with Pay Per Click Search Engines

In addition to traditional search engines, there are numerous Pay Per Click search engines
you can use. You only pay for actual click throughs to your site, and targeted advertising in
Pay Per Click (PPC) search engines will help increase the number of site visitors (and
    hopefully customers!) that you have.

Among the PPCs, there are two eight hundred pound gorillas, and a couple of other smaller, but still hefty gorillas. The rest are much smaller, and less influential, but some people consider them of value simply because you can buy traffic at bargain prices, often a few cents per click. You need to
learn about pay per click advertising
    .

#5 – E-Zine Advertising and Publishing Your Articles

Running “solo ads” or ads that are placed in ezines can be a good way to get some
traffic to your site, or to get the word out about your product. There are thousands of email
ezines being published, and many editors are more than happy to have the revenue from paid
advertising. As with any other form of advertising, though, you have to watch your costs, and
need some method for tracking your results.

I have a page here at emarketingman devoted to helping you learn about ezine advertising and publishing articles as a marketing strategy. It will definitely be worth your time to learn about both.

#6 – Traffic and Banner Exchanges

Traffic exchanges are known by a variety of names, including “start page exchange”, “surf
for hits”, and similar terms. The basic premise is that members of the exchange set the start
page of their browser so that whenever they open their browser, they see the “rotator” provided
by the exchange, which displays the home page of one of the members. You earn credits by
viewing these pages … the more sites you visit, the more times your page is displayed on the
network. This internet marketing strategy has its drawbacks, however. You can learn more
    about marketing with traffic exchanges
    and banner exchanges
    here.

#7 – Offline Advertising and Marketing Strategies

A lot of people don’t think about advertising offline, but actually, it can be quite effective for
some websites. Placing classified ads in newspapers, printing up brochures, offering tee shirts,
pens, coffee cups, and other trinkets, and even printing business cards or bumper stickers are all
viable methods for promoting a web site. In addition, very few people think of it, but direct mail
advertising can be used to promote a website, too.

You owe it to yourself to learn about website
    marketing using offline methods
. You may or may not use it, but you should know how it works.
Many offline methods can be adapted to become online marketing strategies, too.

#8 – Social Networking and Social Bookmarking

These methods are part of the “web 2.0” movement that started in 2006 and 2007. The whole idea
is that the web just be much more interactive, and user-created. Toward that end, sites like
Technorati emerged, where users could bookmark
their favorite sites and rank them, and other users would find sites by virtue of their popularity.

Another big part of Web 2.0 is social communities like
    Facebook
    and MySpace where users
can create their own personal pages, upload audio and video, and develop networks of “friends”. Most
of these communities discourage blatant marketing, however, so you really need to use them primarily
for making contacts, and directing traffic to your other websites.

We’ve covered a lot of territory on these pages, and hopefully you’ve learned at least one
internet marketing strategy that you can put to good use. If you want to learn even more, and
start yourself on the road to being a true expert, learn

    Search Engine Optimzation Secrets

Search Engine Optimzation Secrets : Speak to Google

Submit All of Your Pages and Watch Your Traffic Grow!

Everyone is looking for search engine “secrets” about how to
get more qualified traffic to their web sites. What I’m going to share
with you is no secret, however it is not practiced by very many search engine
optimization companies or individuals. Many companies and individuals only submit their home
page to search engines and directories. You can easily start growing your
traffic in 90 – 120 days by implementing the following procedures.

The first and most important rule is to add new quality content to your website, it must be unique and it must be relevant to your site, if you nothing else you must do this…..WRITE!!

Then and only then Search Engine Optimize the new content in these basic ways:

    1. Create a unique title for each page of your
site that covers a different subject matter
    . I am astounded when I surf
the web and I find large and small companies whose web sites don’t have
a decent title for their home page, much less titles for any of their
content pages. Your title should not be named “home”. If you own a web
design program or if you have competent web designers, your title can
be changed on every page in 10 – 30 minutes. Your title should be short
and describe the content on that page. In case you were not aware, the
title of each page always appears in the upper left hand corner of the
browser used by the person visiting your web site.

    2. Create meta tags for each page that has a different
    title.
Most people use the same meta tags for each page of their web site.
If you have different content on different pages, then you should have
different meta tags for those internal pages too! Meta Tags are the hidden
text that programmers use to enable the search engine “spiders” to find
your site on the world wide web. At one time, there were numerous meta
tags in use, but in recent years, only Title, Keywords, and Description are
    thought to have any importance.

    3. Submit your pages to search engines and directories – Carefully >
every month. Once you have the proper title and meta tags for the interior
pages of your web site, register them once a month. If you want ANY of
your pages indexed by search engines, you have to submit them once a month!
You can do this manually or you can do it through various submit programs.
The most affordable method I have found is the free search engine submit
    tool at BraveNet.com.
BraveNet allows you to register with 18 search engines at no charge. If
you do this once a month, you will start getting traffic to your newly
    submitted pages within 60 – 120 days.

In summary: Optimizing your title and your Meta
Tags for each page can easily quadruple your traffic in just a few months.
Submitting your internal pages of your web site to directories and search
engines is an affordable and easy way to bring more qualified traffic
    to your web site.

and how to create a web site, if for no other reason than the fact you may want to add
or delete something from your pages, and it’s a lot cheaper to do it yourself than to
have to pay a fee every time you want some minor modification made to a page.

This is automated web site design at its
finest, and truly allows you to create web sites on your own.

    easy way to create
